Soundproofing or Acoustiblok – The Right Way To Build A Sound Room At Home.

Soundproofing or Acoustiblok – How To Build Your Home Studio from Kühl Toys on Vimeo.

Got Soundproofing? – Even Acoustiblok, the leader in sound isolation will tell you there is no such thing as “soundproofing”. Even though that’s what they call their blog, it is really all about insulation and isolation.  Together most people call it “soundproofing” a room.

So what are you to do if you work nights and need to sleep in a room next to a guy who thinks he is Slash? What are you to do if you are practicing to audition for your next gig and neighbors are home?

According to Shawn Saathoff at Acoustiblok, the answer lies in sound isolation with Acoustiblok and Quietfiber. KühlToys put Acoustiblok to the test and it earned the KühlToys Approved Stamp.

What did we find out? Acoustiblok is a simple solution for sound isolation. Live near the L in Chicago? Acoustiblok can make your home quieter. Have a noisy hobby that your neighbors don’t like? Acoustiblok can keep the sound from leaving the house too.

We built two rooms right next to each other in the same house. This isn’t a demo in a studio, these are two real rooms in a real house. The house is under a commercial airport flight path. One room is treated with sound isolation. The treated room has Acoustiblok on the walls and QuietFiber in the studs.

Quietfiber is Acoustiblok’s proprietary mineral wool insulation. Spun from rock fiber, Quietfiber is fire resistant and pest resistant as well. Quietfiber cuts like bread so you don’t stuff it in the wall you fit it.

The room with Acoustiblok is a new sound studio for a voice actress who lives under the flight path of a commercial airport. What you see in the video isn’t quite the truth. Our cameras made detectable noise in the sound room making it look louder than it really was. The key is that when the jets fly by, the meter doesn’t move. There are better meters, but we don’t have them.

Making the sound in the room is a different topic and a bit of an art. If we get enough people who want to see it, maybe, just maybe we’ll do some wall treatments and convince Shawn Saathoff to come back with better meters and show you how easy it can be to make a professional sound studio in your house with Acoustiblok!

If Acoustiblok and Quietfiber can let her record Green Giants with Jets flying over, imagine what it can do for you. Check it out!
